Baptism is a wonderful gift from our Lord Jesus Christ. After Jesus saves us from our sins, the first act of obedience he calls us to is baptism. Being baptized does not save us, but is an important act of obedience because of what it symbolizes. When we are baptized by immersion under water, we are showing a watching world that we identify with the death of our Savior Jesus Christ. Then, when we are raised out of the water, we symbolically show that we have been raised to a new life just like Jesus rose from the dead. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality in our hearts.
